YLF's Secret Rock Stars!!!

Between participating here and attending my first YLF meetup this February, I have a pretty good idea about the different types of people that frequent the forum. We're a fun, friendly bunch, with varied interests, and broad talents. We like fashion, we like food, we like to travel, we like to read …

And some of us like to totally rock out.

I was listening to Pandora and a song by a band I had never heard of came on. I liked it so I gave it my Pandora 'Thumbs Up.' I realized a few moments later, that I didn't just like it, I kind of loved it, so I decided to look them up. Pandora didn't offer anything on this mystery band, Bemular, so I moved on to Google and Bing. A few clicked links and I had landed on their website, which featured the cover art for their upcoming album. It took me a second to progress from puzzlement to utter gleeful shock - I was staring at a picture of YLF sweetheart, Rae, sitting outside in her wedding dress, looking totally gorgeous and at the same time totally badass.

No need to worry, it turns out that Rae isn't trying to keep her involvement in Bemular private, she's just so freakin' blasé about the whole thing that she's never thought to mention it here. How rock star is that?

Seriously, check it out:

You can get their stuff through Amazon and iTunes and a few other places, but I'm hoping Rae will (stop blushing long enough to) weigh in on which place is their preferred seller before I buy everything they've ever released!

Oh - and like them on Facebook for a free download!

Whoo hoo!!!

This post is also published in the youlookfab forum. You can read and reply to it in either place. All replies will appear in both places.

What a small world ! It is just unbelievable.

I am once removed from a rock star and a couple of times removed ( through Una ) to an oscar nominated producer !

    Thanks for sharing !

  • Jem replied 10 years ago

Cool discovery! Come on Rae, tell us about it! :-) (love the pictures of you and your hubby)

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

Wow! That is so awesome. Will check it out as soon as sleeping husband awakes. The humbleness makes it even that much more spectacular. Cool pics, too.

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

Ps, what genre were you listening to on Pandora?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

    *blushes even redder*

I am reeling from Bemular's first official rave review - thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful post! It is just beautiful that my YLF buddy found us on Pandora, despite the fact that I apparently am terrible at promoting the music!

The band consists of myself (bass), my husband Todd (rhythm and vocals), our friend Steve (lead guitar), and his wife Joycie (keyboard). Steve and Joycie haven't had time to go out and do a photo shoot with us, so we used our wedding pics for art (thought it was fitting since we are two married couples).

Todd writes most of the songs, but I did write a song for our upcoming album that I will be sure to share. It's almost finished, and has lots of new material. We are also rehearsing with the intent to play live shows and maybe a festival if we can. There should also be some fun covers on Youtube that Hubs and I did for while goofing off a bit at home.

There is a centralized company we signed up with to put the music out for download on all the major websites, so there is no preference for where to buy, should anyone choose to download. In this day and age, I am personally just thrilled that people can find it and hear it. :)

Thanks, again, for posting/encouraging/and asking questions. Music and fashion are my two Big Loves, and it's so cool to have them collide like this!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

How awesome is THAT. And Hank's a rock/youtube star, too! WOOHOO! What a great post. Way to go, GX and Rae.

  • Girl X replied 10 years ago

Carole, it came up in what I call my 'Curve Radio' station - which is based off of two songs from Curve and a song from Nine Inch Nails.

  • Ana replied 10 years ago

    That. Is. *Awesome*!!

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

That has to be one of the coolest YLF comunity stories ever, Girl X! Almost certainly gets the top award for a Thread Not Featuring Fashion :-D

Proud to have 'met' you, Rae! ::off to check out the music::

  • san replied 10 years ago

Oh wow. I am so impressed with the music and the fact that Rae didn't let on about this. Rae you and hubs make beautiful music together. I bet you've heard that many times.
Thanks Girl X for bringing this up front!! And it so interesting that you heard the song and fell in love with it and found out it was Rae and hubs!! A great YLF story.
Rae you and hubs will go far!

Wait, NIN was partially involved in leading you to Bemular?? I'm beyond plonking! I will have to check out Curve as well.

While we're talking band stuff, we also just entered a Smashing Pumpkins cover song competition. The song is "Crush (Bemular) - if you like Pumpkins, please check it out. Voting can be done in the far right hand columt here:

  • Sunita replied 10 years ago

    That's really amazing, Rae!

Just curious...is there a story behind the band's name?

  • Jonesy replied 10 years ago

Too. Much. Awesomeness. In. One. Thread!!! Rae, this is so fantastic!

  • replied 10 years ago

    hehehe... look what I found....
What the heck, it's all out now:)

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

This story is way beyond cool! Our own star Rae!!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Wow Rae!!! I mean...SERIOUSLY....WOW!!! Will you remember us little people when you're famous???

You are one talented little lady - kicking style, paints her own dress, and musician - all too fab!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Sunita, it's not much of a story. Bemular is a monster who fights the fictional Japanese hero Ultraman. We were watching a show one night and said, "That would be a fun band name."

Zap, it's all out, indeed! I wore my citron jacket and AS tee so people would know it's really me.

  • replied 10 years ago

@Zapotee, thanks for that handy-dandy link!!!!! Very cool.

GirlX you are probably going to crash the site with this post!

@Rae. Now I know why you always Look. So. Cool. without every trying. Cuz U R Cool. Some of us got it, some of us don't. *sigh* I knew you when. Remember that!

  • christieanne replied 10 years ago

In house band for YLF :) Love it and adding to my own Pandora mix.
You have to self promote in this day and age - don't hold back!

  • Kirti replied 10 years ago

Wow! This is so awesome! :D Rae, I agree with Claire - you are super cool!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

How awesome! I am off to have a listen.

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

Very, very cool! Love the pictures, too!

  • Mander replied 10 years ago

Woohoo! I know you oh-so-casually mentioned band practice and playing the bass, but I thought these were mere hobbies that you had taken up! Not a full-fledged band capable of doing a fab cover of a great SP song!

  • citygirldc replied 10 years ago

I love musicians. You Rock (no pun intended)!!! LOL!!

  • Claudia replied 10 years ago

Wow! Interesting! Good luck with this, Rae. You are smart, pretty, talented, creative, and all around amazing!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

In we have a house band, does that mean we're having the First Annual YLF Ball? Creativity just pours from you, Rae --- fashion, music....what next!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Now I have a new Pandora channel to listen to while I'm doing procedures--the Bemular station! :)

OMG guys you have to check this out!
A real rock video! It's got everything from her hubby (who's a dead ringer for Michael Hutchence from INXS) wrapped in Saran wrap and also shopping at Target, to Rae in her wedding dress and holding her kitty, to Rae dancing girl-group style and also rocking out while playing bass (that lovely long hair looks so great when she's headbanging). Squee!!! So much fun! Rae you are amazingly talented and creative. You are too cool for words. Remember us when you get famous!

  • greenglove replied 10 years ago

No wonder you look so cool- you are the real thing!! Such talent and fabness!
